Life on the loop / Livet på loopen

(EN) Today, we were supposed to start our return trip from Ice Rise C towards Troll station. However, snow drift and high wind speeds do not allow for craning and loading of cargo and it appears as if we will be stuck in the camp for another day. A camp that is acompressed to minimum extent in order to reduce its vulnerability to the elements. Already before the storm, we packed the sleeping tents and moved into the hard shelters we have along: Equipped with bunk beds, the kitchen module can comfortably accommodate four people during the night. Another two persons can sleep in the snow trucks, where the rear seat can be converted into a sleeping bench. Two more people find their beds in the workshop module that we have along. This module is a small cabin, mounted onto a sled, originally designed to carry tools and as a shelter for mechanical work. On our expedition we have extended its functionality, in order to be able to split up into two groups. While travelling on the loop, it became our kitchen and living area, with an inbuilt heating system, four chairs, a foldable table and a camping stove on the workbench.

 

(NO) I dag skulle vi ha dratt fra Ice Rises C til Troll, men vind og snøføyke gjorde lossing og kraning av utstyret vårt umulig, så det ser sånn ut at vi skal være her ei natt til. Leiren vår er komprimert til et minimum for å beskytte oss bedre mot naturelementene. Allerede før stormen tok vi ned soveteltene og flyttet in i de robuste kjøretøyene vi har med oss. Fire sover i den store kjøkkenmodulen, som er utstyrt med klappsenger, to sover på baksetene i beltevognene og to sover i verkstedmodulen vi har med oss. Verkstedmodulen er opprinnelig ment for å frakte ulike verktøy og for å kunne gjennomføre mekanisk arbeid i kulde, men vi har utvidet bruksområdet til den lille bua for å kunne dele gruppen i to. Den er utstyrt med bord, stoler, oppvarming og gasskomfyr på arbeidsbenken. Med dette kunne fire av oss bruke verkstedmodulen som kjøkken og oppholdsrom mens vi var på ”loopen”, hvor vi jobbet på vestre side av isbremmen.
