(EN) Between Ice Rise D and Ice Rise C there is an outlet of the fast-flowing glacier "Jutulstraumen" and associated crevasse areas on both sides. These crevasses are made by shear from between the fast-flowing glacier outlet and the slowly moving ice shelf.
We use the latest satellite images, taken about a month ago, to avoid such crevasses, but this is not safe enough. Therefore, we additionally use radar to detect crevasses hidden under the snow. Our safety expert Harvey Goodwin is leading route reconnaissance efforts together with Joel Brown, who works as a radar operator.
